- The Council negotiates with shipping lines, ship-
owners, Nigerian Ports Authority & other port operators
/ any other agencies offering ancillary shipping
services on issues affecting shippers
- The Council represents shippers’ interest in local and
international shipping and trade related forums and
organizations such as IMO, MOWCA/UASC, UNCTAD
- The Council has aggressively encouraged the formation
of Shippers Associations nation-wide to empower
shippers for meaningful negotiations with providers of shipping services. These Shippers’ Associations are assisted by the Council through the provision of secretariat and other support services to ensure their
functionality. Just recently, the Council embarked upon
a restructuring exercise of the Shippers’ Associations to
ensure that their members are primarily active shippers
with cargo volume.
- The Council has established an “AIR FREIGHT
STAKEHOLDERS FORUM” to consider and solve all cargo
import/export issues arising at the air cargo handling ports. This
forum is made up of major operators, shippers and regulators at
the air cargo sheds.
- The Council is playing a key role in the Presidential Standing Committee on Port Problems, of which the Council’s Executive Secretary/CEO is Chairman.
- The Council, with the cooperation of the Nigeria Customs Service, has established an NSC/NCS technical cooperation committee to provide a forum for discussing import/export clearance issues as they affect shippers
