1.3.8 AIR FREIGHT STAKEHOLDERS’ FORUM The Council has established an “AIR FREIGHT STAKEHOLDERS’ FORUM” to consider and solve all cargo import/export issues arising at the air cargo handling ports. This forum is made up of major operators, shippers and regulators at the air cargo sheds. In this way, the Council has facilitated the control of excessive charges and thus put sanity in the sector 1.3.9 INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES The Council participates in international maritime activities and forums that enable it to negotiate and consult in order to contribute meaningfully to international decisions that ultimately affect the cargo interest of Nigerian Shippers. The Council is affiliated to /liaises with the following organizations:
The Council has continually pursued goals that will effectively minimize freight, tariff and other related shipping charges as well as play the umpire/advisory role in commercial shipping. The Council has been able to achieve much in the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism to arbitrate trade disputes, handled complaints and claims between users and providers of shipping services across all transport modes. Many cases were handled on various issues. Some of these issues include: Short landing and non-delivery of Cargoes
Theft/ pilferages and damage to cargoes
The Council has been able to play a mediator role in many of these cases to ensure recovery, remedy or indemnification as the case may be. In the case of those that are still actionable, the Council has sought redress in the law courts. |
